Episode #6 Design Recess is the discussion of the intersection between play and profession. Zander Van Gogh (@zanvangogh) sits down with Elizabeth Engele (@engeletwin2) and Griffin Goodman (@griffingoodman) to discuss their paths within the design industry.
In this episode Griffin explains his journey through Art School for his undergraduate career and continuing with a masters education. Elizabeth shares her experience in creating a non for profit design organization to help educate young girls about the subject of STEAM and her career at a tech company as a business executive.
Elizabeth Engele
An entrepreneurial maker & lifelong learner. Her biggest accomplishment is educating over 4,000 girls in 24 states in STEM through MakerGirl, a not for profit she co-founded in 2014 which hosts 3D printing workshops for 7-10 year old girls. She's currently earning her Master’s in Design at IIT’s Institute of Design in Chicago, and prior to that, she learned how to ask difficult questions and build meaningful business relationships as a Nonprofit Account Executive at LinkedIn. In her early life, she grew up on a farm where she learned the joy of tinkering and play which she strives to implement in her daily life. She's also a children’s teacher at Park Community Church, Forbes 30 under 30 recipient, triathlete, and vegan baker.
Griffin Goodman
A vicarious and immensely talented artist who lives and works in Chicago, IL. He received his Masters in Fine Arts from the Painting and Drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019 and a BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2017. Recently he’s had a solo show with Andrew Rafazc Gallery (Chicago,IL) and group exhibitions at the Sarasota Art Center (Sarasota, FL), Jaw Gallery (Yamaguchi, Japan), and the Elmhurst Art Museum (Chicago, IL). Goodman has been published in New City Mag Chicago, Rolling Stone Magazine, the Herald Tribune, Art Fuse NY, and Elite Daily Los Angeles. When Griffin's not in his studio painting, he's working on his brand Goodboy Griffin, freelance designing for big brands and private clients, and painting murals all over the streets of Chicago.
